In a psalm filled with images of upheaval — roaring waters, shaking mountains, and nations in turmoil — God calls His people to stop striving and recognize His absolute sovereignty.
The command to “be still” is not merely an invitation to relax. It is a call to cease anxious effort, abandon the illusion of control, and acknowledge that God alone rules over history, nations, and the lives of individuals. In the midst of chaos, God reminds His people that His authority is not threatened and His purposes will stand.
