Jeremiah 21:2

Inquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.

Reflection

This verse captures a moment of urgency during a time of impending attack on Judah. King Zedekiah sends messengers to the prophet Jeremiah, seeking God’s guidance in the face of the Babylonian threat. It demonstrates reliance on God in times of fear, uncertainty, and danger.

What This Verse Reveals

  • Seeking God’s Counsel – Even a king recognizes the need to consult God in critical situations.
  • Dependence on God’s Power – Judah hopes that God’s “wondrous works” may deliver them from the enemy.
  • Faith in God’s Sovereignty – Despite overwhelming circumstances, God’s intervention is still sought and trusted.

Why This Verse Matters

  • Model for Prayer in Crisis – Turning to God during trials is a timeless principle for believers.
  • Recognition of God’s Authority – Human leaders have limits; only God can truly protect and deliver.
  • Hope Amid Threats – Even when facing powerful enemies, faith in God provides hope and direction.

Application for Today

  • Pray Before Major Decisions – Seek God’s guidance in challenges, big or small.
  • Trust in God’s Power – Remember that God’s ability to act surpasses any human threat or problem.
  • Act with Faith – Just as Judah sought God, believers today can approach God with confidence, asking for deliverance, wisdom, and strength.

Jeremiah 21:2 encourages us to rely on God’s guidance, trust His wondrous works, and seek His intervention in times of danger and uncertainty.
