Ezekiel 36:36

Then the heathen that are left round about you shall know that I the LORD build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it.

Reflection

This verse speaks of God’s power to restore and renew. Even in places that seem utterly ruined or desolate, God declares His ability to rebuild and bring life. The surrounding nations (“the heathen”) will witness His work, revealing His sovereignty, faithfulness, and unmatched ability to transform devastation into flourishing.

Spiritually, Ezekiel 36:36 reminds believers that nothing is beyond God’s restorative power. God not only promises restoration but guarantees it: His words are certain, and His actions are faithful. Despair and desolation are never final when God is at work.

What This Verse Reveals

  • “Build the ruined places” – God specializes in restoration, turning destruction into life and hope.
  • “Plant that was desolate” – God can bring fruitfulness where nothing appears to grow.
  • “I the LORD have spoken it, and I will do it” – God’s promises are trustworthy and assured; He acts according to His word.
  • “Then the heathen… shall know” – God’s works reveal His glory to all nations.

Why This Verse Matters

Ezekiel 36:36 teaches key truths:

  • God Restores What Is Broken – Personal, spiritual, or communal devastation can be renewed through Him.
  • His Promises Are Certain – God’s word is reliable; what He declares, He accomplishes.
  • God’s Power Is Evident to All – Restoration serves as a testimony to His greatness, even to those outside His covenant people.

This verse emphasizes that God’s work in our lives is not limited by circumstances. He transforms loss into blessing, hopelessness into hope, and desolation into abundance.

Application for Today

Ezekiel 36:36 encourages believers to trust God in times of brokenness or disappointment. Even when situations seem irreparable, God can rebuild, restore, and bring fruitfulness.

It also inspires hope and faith, reminding us that God’s promises are steadfast. As we witness His restoration in our own lives or the lives of others, we become living testimonies to His glory and power.
