Exodus 36:32

And five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the sides westward.

Reflection

At first glance, Exodus 36:32 appears to be a purely technical detail — a verse focused on construction measurements and materials. Yet within these precise instructions lies a deeper spiritual truth. God’s dwelling place among His people was not built carelessly or randomly. Every bar, board, and measurement had purpose. This verse reminds us that God values order, stability, and faithfulness in the work done for His presence.

The bars mentioned in Exodus 36:32 served a vital function: they held the boards of the tabernacle firmly together. Without them, the structure would not stand. In the same way, God’s people are called to be bound together in unity, strengthened by what He provides, so that His presence may dwell among them.

A Story in the Structure

Picture the craftsmen in the wilderness, working carefully according to the instructions given by the LORD. The desert winds blow, the sand shifts, and yet the tabernacle stands firm. The bars running along the boards are unseen by most, but they provide the strength that keeps everything aligned and secure.

This verse quietly tells a story of unseen faithfulness — of obedience expressed through careful workmanship. No task is too small when it contributes to a dwelling place for God. The westward side, like every other side, matters equally. God’s presence is surrounded by completeness and balance.

Why These Details Matter

Exodus 36:32 teaches us important lessons:

  • God Cares About Details – Obedience includes faithfulness in what may seem ordinary or unnoticed.
  • Strength Comes from Connection – The bars unify the structure, just as God strengthens His people through unity.
  • Every Part Has a Purpose – Even hidden components play a critical role in supporting God’s work.

God does not dwell in chaos. The careful construction of the tabernacle reflects His holy order and desire to be among a people who follow His word with care.

Application for Today

Exodus 36:32 encourages us to value the “small” acts of obedience in our own lives. The quiet work — the consistent faith, the unnoticed service, the daily commitment — often provides the strength that holds everything together. When we allow God to align us with His design, our lives become a dwelling place where His presence rests.

Just as the bars held the tabernacle firm in the wilderness, God’s guidance and truth can hold us steady, even when the world around us feels unsettled.
